McCain: “We Republicans are the only ones who can clean up this mess WE made!”
“We have met the enemy and he is us!”
Yep. That, in essence, is what he said. “We came to change Washington and Washington changed us!” he bellowed.
The reaction in the arena was… muted?
No matter how many tales of heroism told by McCain and his “handlers” the GOP ain’t with John McCain. No matter what he says, the base ain’t with him.
McCain is a man without a party – if he is elected he will be totally alone. He won’t reform shit, he’ll be shoved aside as the BushCorp board of directors continue the bust-out of the US Treasury.
This is all about Sarah Palin vs. Barack Obama. She is the new face of the GOP. God, guns and gays!
Gee. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!
Karl Rove: “Small town mayor and short term Governor not ready for Presidency.”
You read that correctly, folks. Karl Rove, whose disciple, Steve Schmidt, is now ram-rodding the McCain campaign, told CBS “Face the Nation” host Bob Scheiffer that a short-term governor who was previously a mayor would not have the attributes or experience to step in as President.
However, he wasn’t speaking of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, that gun-toting, moose-eating, bikini-sporting, former mayor of Wasilla, a town of 9,000 and GOP Vice Presidential candidate. No, he was talking about former Democratic VP prospect Tim Kaine, Governor of Virginia and former mayor of Richmond.
“With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he’s been a governor for three years, he’s been able but undistinguished,” Rove said. “I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America.”
Rove continued: “So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I’m really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States? What I’m concerned about is, can he bring me the electoral votes of the state of Virginia, the 13 electoral votes in Virginia?’”
Hypocrisy, knows no bounds, when it comes to these ruthless bastards, aptly described by former head of the Office of Faith Based Initiatives, John DiIulio, as the Mayberry Machiavellis.
The only reason McCain picked Palin is because she will play to the conservative base of the party who will vote almost solely on the idealogical issues so dear to their hearts. God, guns, and gays…
McCain’s VP pick – “Foward to the Past!” Brilliant political theater!
From a purely political point of view, McCain’s choice of Palin was a masterstroke. He had slung the entire kitchen; range, sink and refrigerator at Obama and had closed the stupid daily polling figures. So what next? Pawlenti? Romney? Ridge? What does any of them do for McCain who has already used up his best stuff? Drawing on the historic race/gender (1st black man as opposed to first white woman) issue and having the Hillary Clinton campaign to wield as a smoke screen, the decision to put Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, a right wing ideologue, on the ticket to satisfy the red-meat conservative base was brilliant.
The POW hero and the Hockey mom.
They will talk her up as a “maverick” to re-bolster McCain’s BS reputation for being the independent guy he used to be… before he gave his balls to Bush in SC eight years ago and never took ‘em back.
“She fought against her own party! She is a reformer and a maverick!”
Big freakin’ deal. She turned down money for a superfluous pork barrel project bridge that had been thoroughly scorned by the entire news media and the butt of late night TV host’s monologues. To me, that is the equivalent of hearing men say, “I take care of my kids!”, as if that is some kind of big accomplishment.
Ignore for the moment that in order to win, the GOP needs to have a ticket that swears it will fight its own party, the party that has been in total control of the government for most of the last eight years.
This maneuver, by the Karl Rove crew running this campaign, is going back to the Lee Atwater playbook, which is to divide the country in half and win 51-49 per cent by any means necessary.
For right now, and if they are very lucky, for the next week, the GOP convention will drive the news cycles. McCain’s campaign has to hope this will ignite the conservative base and that base will now get behind McCain without having to hold their noses.
The question is: will white folks, the “hard-working Americans”, so eloquently described by Senator Clinton, stop screwing themselves and vote for once go into the voting booth humming, “We Don’t get Fooled Again!”
Mental Head Slap!
Actually, I literally slapped my forehead when I saw the photo accompanying this piece. I wondered what this chick was thinking… and then I saw her photo. Anyone in 2008 who would get that haircut AND go on TV may just be… nah. I won’t go there. Don’t get me wrong, I understand her sentiment but for cryin’ out! Didja ever consider your timing might just be a tad off?
Lady, a Black man, an African-American is the Democratic nominee for President of the United States! The Black National Anthem? In 2008? Hell, in 1968 it was still the Negro National Anthem.
My point is: Obama’s campaign needs to have states such as Colorado in play this November. If he can change the electoral map he can defuse the GOP’s general strategy of SCARE THE HELL OUT OF THE WHITE PEOPLE and they will vote against their own self-interest every time. I am talking about the “hard working middle americans” “mom, pop and apple pie americans” etc. The ones in Ohio who voted for Bush because… well, just because!
The folks in Colorado will now have the image of a bunch of uncomfortable politicians wishing they were anywhere else on earth than in that gathering as Ms. Rene Marie warbled James Weldon Johnson’s Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner.
Between the Left hollering because Obama has moved to the center on the issues the GOP will seek to bash him with in the fall and dumb Negroes pulling Stoopid-Ass stunts like this we are gonna end up on the morning of Jan 20 asking, “What the fuck happened?”
Tryin’ to make it real?
The last few news cycles has the Left confused (as usual) and the Right apoplectic. Wes Clark said McCain’s experience as a pilot and POW doesn’t qualify him to be CinC.
Of course everyone called it a gaffe but they are wrong and Clark is right.
This too will pass… and in less than a week. The longer McCain’s people yap about this the more scrutiny it will bring and whether he knows it or not, McCain cannot bear much scrutiny. However, the more one looks at Obama the better he looks… unless of course you don’t like the WAY he looks. <nudge, nudge>
Obama distanced himself from the comments and the Left are wondering why he did. Puh-leeze. The Left says “He’s moving past the center! to the RIGHT!” Hmmm. Compare Obama to McCain. Which one has a center-left political record? Shall we make him prove his left wing bona fides NOW? Is there any wonder that the Left keeps losing elections?
Obama is being hit with everything from “He’s a Muslim sleeper agent” to being the Anti-Christ. He better push Mom, baseball, and apple pie every chance he gets. The numbskulls who make up “Middle-America” needs to have this rammed down their throats again and again just so they can think twice before they vote against the nigger. Maybe this time the “working class” Americans will vote for themselves instead of voting against ____. fill in the blank: blacks, gays, gun control, abortion yada yada.
Or they vote for themselves rather than their irrational fears – watch Osama bin Laden put up a video during election week and everybody freaks! Does it seem that Osama and Bush are on the same page… “Terrorize the USA and bankrupt the National Treasury.”
Mission Accomplished, indeed.
General Wesley Clark and Sen. John McCain
McCain hires a SwiftBoat vet to defend him against… what?
Wes Clark was on “Face the Nation” yesterday and said the fact that McCain was shot down doesn’t qualify him to be Commander-in-Chief. Of course the inevitable “media firestorm” has followed. My question is: “What is the BFD?” Just because my boy McCain (Whom I happened to like and respect a lot until he handed his balls to GWB and Co. during the 2000 campaign) got shot down and captured doesn’t make him a “hero.” Where is the fallacy in Clark’s statement? Clark didn’t impugn McCain’s character or patriotism he just said getting shot down doesn’t qualify him to be president.
